Bill Meeks, Jr., Chair

For better communication, VVA Committee Chairs have been requested to submit a monthly progress report to
VVA Vice President Jack Devine and please consider this document as the December ˜09 Report from the committee.

VVA Membership Affairs Committee approved by the VVA National BOD:

Vice-Chair: Dick Southern

Members: Carol Baker, Peter Bessigano, Charlie Hobbs, Len Ignatowski, Charlie Montgomery, Marshall Mudge,
Mike Oravetz, Jim Pace, Carol Schetrompf and Wayne Watkins

Special Advisors: Sharon Hobbs (AVVA Membership Chair), John Pancrazio and Jeff White

Staff Coordinator: Ernestine Horton

The VVA Membership Committee is continuing to review and revise all membership material since we have moved
the VVA National office to our new address: 8719 Colesville Road, Suite 100, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
Our phone and fax numbers are the same: 301-585-4000 (p) & 301-585-0519 (f).

The committee has selected new graphics for the revised membership application, a final sample will be reviewed during the
January 10 committee meeting and the membership application should be in our inventory by the end of February.

The committees FYE 11 Budget will be submitted before the February 15, 2010 deadline to the VVA Finance Committee,
here are the achievements from the last budget cycle and the committee continues to use our limited budget wisely.

January: VVA membership as of January 31, 2009 reached 58,771 members which was another record high in our recruiting
and retention of members.

The 2008 VVA Membership Directory raised $30,655 for the committees cost center.

The additional revenue was used to purchase mobile displays for twenty-one (21) state councils to help in their recruitment efforts.

A handy pocket-size (3 x 6) version of the VVA Leadership Handbooks (State Council / Chapter President, State Council /
Chapter Secretary and State Council / Chapter Treasurer) was produced for the leadership to use in the every day operation as a
state council or chapter.

February: Due to the memberships concerns the committee submitted two (2) proposed constitutional amendments dealing with the repetitious requests for a members DD-214 for the upcoming VVA Convention.

The committee created a new membership form â VVA Member EZ Renewal Form which is available on the VVA web site.

The new form can be used by a VVA member who has not received their renewal notice for whatever reason
(could be lost, misplaced or have a bad mailing address).

The member can download the form; send the completed form to VVA avoiding further delay and save VVA from having to
send another renewal form by mail.

April: The committee continued revising all membership material for the projected move by VVA to a new location in
Silver Spring, MD in the fall.

Due to an economic downturn numerous VVA Committees/Departments had their FYE 10 budgets cut to balance VVAs
overall budget and the committee lost the remaining $18,000 from the 2008 VVA Membership Directory revenue,
thus further plans pertaining to membership were scraped.

July:
The Life Member total were at 30,124 members which was a record high and Life membership is now over 50% of the overall VVA membership.

August: VVA membership reached another record total at 60,065 members and this milestone was accomplished by the end of the month. The two (2) constitutional amendments pertaining to repetitious requests for a members DD-214 were approved by the convention delegates.
The committee revised the VVA Leadership Handbooks as necessary in regard to the changes in the VVA Constitution.

September: The committee presented a power point membership seminar Basic Tools to Build a Successful VVA Chapter to the
TN State Council in McMinnville, TN.

The committee participated in the VVA Membership Feedback Survey by providing membership related questions to the VVA Public Affairs Committee for the online survey and some interesting information was acquired from that survey which will benefit several
VVA National Committees.
The survey information is available to the membership upon request bmeeks@vva.org.

November: VVA membership continues to reach new milestones with 61,013 members nationwide and
AVVA membership recorded a new record with 7,585 members.

December: Membership totals continue to soar as VVA has 61,204 members and AVVA has 7,598 members.

January: The committee will present a discussion on How Do Chapters Fit in the VVA Organization and a power point membership seminar Road Map to Recruitment & Retention of Members for the CA State Councils Chapter Leadership Training Conference
at Fresno, CA.
